There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel building that highlights a number of comforts on top of the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
