There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gambling is prohibited. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that highlights a number of comforts accompanying the gambling den, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
