The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is something of a risk at the current time, so you may imagine that there would be very little desire for patronizing Zimbabwe’s gambling dens. Actually, it seems to be working the other way around, with the awful market circumstances leading to a greater ambition to bet, to try and locate a fast win, a way from the problems.

For the majority of the people subsisting on the tiny nearby wages, there are 2 dominant types of betting, the state lotto and Zimbet. As with practically everywhere else on the planet, there is a state lotto where the chances of winning are extremely tiny, but then the jackpots are also surprisingly large. It’s been said by market analysts who look at the idea that most do not purchase a card with an actual assumption of winning. Zimbet is based on either the national or the English football divisions and involves determining the results of future games.

Zimbabwe’s gambling halls, on the other hand, mollycoddle the incredibly rich of the society and vacationers. Up until recently, there was a very substantial sightseeing business, built on safaris and trips to Victoria Falls. The economic woes and associated crime have cut into this market.

Among Zimbabwe’s casinos, there are two in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has 5 gaming tables and one armed bandits, and the Plumtree gambling den, which has just the slots. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only slots. Mutare contains the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the pair of which contain gaming tables, slot machines and video poker machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, each of which have gaming machines and blackjack, roulette, and craps tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe’s gambling dens and the above mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is quite like a parimutuel betting system), there are also 2 horse racing tracks in the state: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the second municipality) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Since the market has deflated by more than 40 percent in the past few years and with the associated deprivation and crime that has cropped up, it isn’t understood how well the vacationing business which is the backbone of Zimbabwe’s gambling halls will do in the near future. How many of the casinos will still be around till things improve is simply unknown.
