There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den betting is illegal. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that highlights many comforts on top of the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
