There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau casino, highlights 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel compound that contains a number of conveniences aside from the gambling hall, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
