There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, features 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel complex that contains many amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
