There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are means around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel compound that highlights numerous conveniences on top of the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
